Nilima Venkat is a qualified and registered social worker and has been associated with providing Social/ Community support for the last 2 decades, addressing inequalities affecting our communities, especially senior citizens and women of Indian and South Asian origin. Her expertise and passion lie in the field of intervention and prevention of Elder Abuse. She is currently working at SEVA Charitable Trust as Head of Operations.
Nilima is involved in the community in various capacities some of which include being a founder member and Chairperson (current) of The Asian Network Inc, Trustee of the Sahayata counselling services, Community Advisory group member of Health and Disability Commission, NZ Police interview panel, as a community representative to select senior sergeant level and ethnic community liaison officers.
She is a recipient of many accolades, which include, Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) in 2013 New Year’s honours list for her community work, Kiwi Bank Local Hero Award in 2018, listed in 25 most influential Kiwi Indian leaders 2021 by Indian Weekender Publication, and many more. She is also a Justice of the Peace in NZ.
